Panoramic Photography

I specialize in panoramic photography –taking shots that simply are not possible with standard cameras. This is usually due to space constraints such as not enough distance within a confined space to fully capture the desired image with a single shot. I could obtain these shots with a DSLR camera with a fisheye lens but this is a large expense and limits my field of view to just what each lens is capable of. To provide a more economical approach and add the flexibility to be as wide as needed, I take shots with a standard “prosumer” digital camera with a tripod and then use Hugin software to digitally “stitch” the images into a seamless panoramic shot. You can see in the working example to the left some of the processes of photo-stitching using the Hugin software. This sample is composed completely from camera-phone images. Jon’s Workshop This was one of my first large-scale tests to prove I can create panoramic fisheye-lens photos from multiple images within an extremely confined space. In this example, I placed the camera on a tripod at the corner of the room (by the door) and collected 3 passes of 9 shots for this image. As you may notice from the distortions at the extreme edges, it wasn’t a perfect creation but the angles of the photos at the far edges made the stitching computations nearly impossible. Still, the shot works for the most part!

Cascades Grill Bridal Suite While developing a website for the Rancho Vista Golf Course and Cascades Grill, the client wanted to emphasize the fact that their wedding events were particularly special and that their bridal suite was quite lovely. However, there simply wasn’t a decent angle to capture just how nice this single room was with a standard camera and lens. This shot was taken with 3 passes at 6 shots each pass to create this single image.

Candi’s Workshop Here was a situation where grasping the scope of all the shelving, equipment, and natural lighting would have been difficult to portray in a single shot from a distance. In this case, this was obtained from 2 passes of 6 shots each.

Cascades Grill Restaurant View Here was a situation where the client wanted to show the wonderful view from their restaurant in a single image. In this case, this was performed with 2 passes of 5 shots each.

Antelope Valley Church Auditorium Here was another situation where the client needed to convey the vast 1,000-seat auditorium for rental purposes in a single photo on their website. I created this shot with a single pass of three shots from the far corner of the room.

Rancho Vista Golf Course Here the client wanted to show the view from their most popular site for outdoor weddings on their website advertisements. I did this image from 3 passes of 6 shots.
